Memory Monday - grandma got me.

Well it was a rather uneventful day Saturday. Nothing much going on in my world. I made an angelfood cake. Not on my list of most favorites, but Fernando loves it so I figured why not.
I decided that since I don't love it... Get something to put on it.
Was going to buy whipping cream to whip up at home. Then in my head I'm thinking... What about cool whip? I know it's made out of oil but i haven't had it in years and I remember it being tasty.
I wasn't sure I would still think so but I had to try.
I got it home, got a spoon and opened up. All I could think was Grandma!
My grandma always had a tub of cool whip in the freezer.
Always.
Whether it was put on top of pudding, a piece of cake, or in a little fruit nappy all on its own it was a treat we only got at grandmas.
Now I have a tub of it in my fridge and I will have a happy grandma memory every time I see it or sneak into it with a spoon.

Funny how the strangest things bring back memories.

Guilty pleasure. Music edition

So I know a lot of people think this is the most horrendous band ever, but I am going to say terrible or not, every time I hear something from the 1996 self titled album... I have happy reminiscing thoughts. Also, I sing. I can't help myself.

Wondering what lovely 90's band I speak of?

Presidents of the United States in America

I think I got this cd in grade 9 and I still have it. If I'm in a bad mood and pop it it in the CD player it is sure to cheer me up and make a shitty day better.
Is it top quality music?
Definitely not.
Is it mood lifting?
Most definitely.
Do I care if people think they are the worst band ever?
Nope!
Better than Hanson or another lovely 90's group.

Things that collect dust.

Ever discover that there are things you NEED to have then once you have them you rarely if ever use them?

I have a few.

1. The juicer. Novelty wore off pretty fast. I don't even love juice. I'm keeping it incase Hugo is a fan of juice. I'd rather make it for him than buy it. That way I at least know what he's drinking.

2. Cake pop maker. What was I thinking? I keep saying that I need to at least try it but to be honest I just don't have time.
This was a great idea pre baby. Now I don't get hours to spend making and decorating pretty frivolous cake pops. Maybe one day.

3. Bread maker. I swear the thing hates me. Everyone tells me how easy and idiot proof it is... Not so much. Every now and then I get all motivated and try again. Never works. I feel like I can't let it win. I will one day conquer that thing! Then toss it out in the back yard and beat it to death office space style. Well. Maybe I won't actually do that but I really want to. What would the Neighbors think? Ha

4. Dresses. Not the casual ones, but the dress up kind. I tell myself that one day I'll get to dress up again. Right?
For now I'll just be honest... Dressing up is when I wear real pants instead of leggings and a real bra.

5. My sewing machine and serger. Seriously. Can each day have a few more hours added to it?! Pretty please?

Kitting vs crochet.

I could probably crochet in my sleep. Seriously. I love to crochet but sometimes I just can't get the look I want with crochet.
Knitting. A thorn in my side. I love the look of knitting. Love.
Knitting does not love me. I am the slowest most confused knitter. I'm trying. Again.
I think people are either good at crochet OR knitting. Not both. I am definitely a crocheter by nature. I learned both at the same time from my grandma (thank you for that grandma... So glad you passed that on to me. I see it as a gift that keeps giving) but was never very good at knitting and just took to crocheting like a fish to water.
Why? Who knows.
Will I keep trying? You bet. I don't like to admit defeat!

Here is my latest attempt. And one of the few finished knitting projects I've ever done.

yum! ham and cheese biscuits... a bit healthier

well not really that healthy... but i added whole wheat flour so i think they're healthy.

recipe:

3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 cup margerine
pinch salt
3/4 cup milk
chopped ham (i just chopped up some leftovers - aprox 3/4 cups)
grated cheese (i grated it straight into the bowl but i'd guess about 3/4 cups)

preheat oven to 450

mix flour, baking powder, and salt in large bowl
cut in margerine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
add milk and stir with a fork until soft dough forms
add cheese and ham
knead 20 times or until smooth.
pat or roll lightly until dough is about 1" thick
cut out rounds with biscuit cutter or cookie cutter (or whatever you have handy)
re roll scraps as necessary.
place on ungreased baking sheet

bake 10 minutes or until golden brown.

enjoy!

Grapes are the new blueberries

Hugo likes to keep me guessing. Yesterday blueberries were his favorite food in the world.
Guess who just froze 6 baskets of blueberries? That's right. Me.
What did Hugo eat with his breakfast? Grapes.
Of course. He squashed the blueberries all over his tray with his water cup.
Fun!
Maybe tomorrow he will love blueberries again.
Sigh.

Two in one day?

Well this isn't really a post... Just checking out the blogger app I downloaded. Forgot to check for one and I just thought hey, a blogger app would be awesome I should see if there is one now. And bam. I search and there it is.
And I'm attaching a picture just try it out.

Ps. Love 90s on 9 on satellite radio!
Endless party in my car these days

to ketchup or not to ketchup... that is the question.

is it just me? or is ketchup on eggs gross?
every time i make eggs for fernando he HAS to have ketchup. personally i think ketchup is only good for fries and potato sort of foods.... like hashbrowns, tater tots... maybe sausage if there is nothing else... but eggs? YUCK!
am i alone on this?

yum! oatmeal pumpkin loaf

it has been a while! my blog is dusty again.

1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup quick oats
1 egg lightly beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup pumpkin puree
3 tbsp vegetable oil

optional: chocolate chips!
of course i added these... chocolate is a must!

mix everything together just until blended.
pour into greased loaf pan and bake at 325 until toothpick comes out clean. mine took about an hour.
